About

Lisa M. Templeton

Lisa M. Templeton, proofreader and sole proprietor of LMT Proofreading.

I have been a teacher for over twenty years and now enjoy utilizing my knowledge and experience with the English language in the field of transcript proofreading. I truly value being a reliable asset to hardworking court reporters who could use a helping hand.
       The resources I utilize are
Morson's English Guide for Court Reporters, The Gregg Reference Manual, Court Reporting:  Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation, Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary, and Google.
The transcript proofreading course by Proofread Anywhere that I completed was thorough and rigorous. It involved proofreading over 3,000 pages (depositions, hearings, rulings, etc.) and completing two exams that had to be fulfilled with a minimum score of 90%. In addition to that, I have a certificate of completion in the general proofreading course offered by Proofread Anywhere and a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Northern Illinois University.

Process
&
Policies

1.    I accept fully scoped (turn-in-ready) transcripts in PDF format (not ASCII or .txt files). CutePDFWriter is free if you need a converter.
Note:
I will accept a job when there are pages ready to be sent. For larger transcripts (over 150 pages), please give me a heads-up so I can check my calendar. Also, I would appreciate at least 50 pages at the onset and a timetable for the rest (in about 50-page portions).  Please understand that if the remaining parts are not delivered at a specified time, then I may not be able to complete the job in its entirety by the requested due date/time.

2.    Please specify which turnaround time you'd prefer when sending a job.  Turnaround time starts after I acknowledge receipt of the transcript and accept the job.
Note:
Please give me advance notice that a rush or expedite will be sent so I can check my calendar.

3.   A confirmation email will be sent in response to the receipt of a transcript.  If you do not receive one, please send me a text or call me.

4.   If a transcript contains an excessive number of errors, there may be an additional charge of $0.10 per page. Annotating an extremely messy transcript takes more time. Consequently, depending on the extent of errors and my other scheduled jobs, I might have to contact you about returning the job or extending the turnaround time if I do not have the extra time it takes to proofread it well.

5.    Corrections will be marked in red text and yellow highlights, and blue text will be used for any comments/explanations.

6.     I will return only the annotated pages (unless you prefer otherwise).

7.    Questions about your preferences:
     a.  Do you use the Oxford comma?
     b.  Are there any other preferences I should know about?
     c.  Do you prioritize rules or readability?

I will watch for consistency to learn your preferences and will contact you via email (or text message if you prefer) if I have a question. I would appreciate your feedback after I finish a job to let me know if there was anything that I marked that didn't meet your preferences.
